4 Things to Do BEFORE You Turn 65
3 Months Before — Apply for Parts A & B
Apply for Medicare Parts A & B online at SSA.gov or in person at your local Social Security office.
Decide on Your Secondary Insurance (the 20% Medicare Doesn't Cover)
You can choose an Advantage plan or a Supplement plan. I can walk you through the difference and which fits your situation best.
If You Choose an Advantage (Part C) Plan
Make sure your primary doctor, specialists, preferred hospital, and medications are in network.
- Choose an MAPD plan if you need prescription drug coverage.
- Choose a MA plan if you have credible drug coverage elsewhere.
If You Choose a Supplement (Medigap) Plan
Supplements are accepted by any Medicare-participating provider. There is NO network!
You will also need a separate Part D prescription drug plan — make sure your current medications are on its formulary, or you will pay retail price for them.
